A Russian bride and a Russian wife is the dream of many men. Many legends have been told about Russian women. Russian women are so beautiful that Western women start seeing a threat in them, both in the fashion business (“The Russians are coming!”), and in the dating-marriage market. In the West, they say that a Russian woman is a dream of the 1950s: she already earns her living but is still in awe in front of her man.
However, there are contradictions around the Russian Woman Phenomenon. And there is too much stereotyping as well in other nationalities. For example, Frenchmen are stereotyped to be gallant, brave and vain. Finnish people are stereotyped as quiet and stubborn. Englishmen are stereotyped as reserved, being gentlemen, snobs and having afternoon tea at 5 o’clock. The same thing happens in regard to stereotyping Russians. First of all, many people think that Russia is an extremely cold place with bears walking in the streets and people wearing fur hats and drinking Vodka all the time. Oh, and a lot of foreigners always mention the famous Russian doll, Matryoshka. Russian men are stereotyped as strong, lazy and constantly drunk. Russian women are stereotyped as beautiful, patient, compassionate and good housewives. However, those who study the mysterious Russian soul via Russian literature will recall without fail Anna Karenina, wives of the Decembrists and wonderful N.A. Nekrasov’s poems:
“Will stop a galloping stallion, will enter a burning house".
But it was all before. It was, it was… In the 19th century. Now Russian women have changed, especially in big cities. They have become more career and business oriented. However, their devotion to their men has remained. If a Russian woman loves you, she would follow you anywhere.
Family is another most important thing for Russian women. This is what Russian women say about them:
“We put the family first. We are always ready to sacrifice a successful career for our families, to be with our husbands and children.”
v “It goes without saying, family is much more important for our women than career.”
v “A Russian woman has a very kind heart. If she gets married, she gives herself to her man completely.”
Unlike in the west, for a Russian woman it is unnatural to live without children and a husband. By the way, here is another quality of a Russian woman – her naturalness. And out of this naturalness comes her beauty. If she wants to cry she will cry. And it is only in your power to stop her from crying, to stop by your kind words and caress. Russian women respond to caress like no one else.
Other characteristic features of Russian women are compassion and hospitality. That’s the Russian tradition. Another tradition is the happiness of motherhood and being a good housewife. That is how it is supposed to be. Starting from the age of 8-9 years old, girls are taught how to cook (at least, either scrambled eggs or borsch). This is still how it is supposed to be in Russian families: women keep the house clean and cosy, bring up their children and spoil their husbands.
If it is necessary, she will sing to you, dance for you, tell you a story, take care of the dog, mow the lawn and tile the bathroom. Moreover, she will be doing all this with deep optimism. This optimism has been built up over centuries. Just think: how else can a person survive in the country where there are only two winters, just one of them is a little bit warmer. The Great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin said the following about the Russian summer in his ‘Eugene Onegin’:
“Our northern summer’s a distortion
Of winter’s season in the south.”
Unfortunately, because of the stereotyping, Russian women’s intellect is undervalued. But those who have communicated with Russian women on www.luvrussians.com, are stunned by their intellectual abilities. Once I even heard such a saying from western men: “What is the difference between a blonde and a Russian blonde? – a Russian blonde can play chess.” Many other foreigners emphasize Russian women’s professionalism, absence of careerism, taking initiative and doing hard male labour.
I would like just to bring up an example of what my great-grandmother did back in the beginning of the 20th century. At that time the Russian Tsar ordered the first railway bridge to be built along the river Volga at its narrowest point, to connect Siberia with the rest of Russia. And my great-grandmother had to work together with men, and actually do the men’s job (she carried very heavy metal rails) to build this famous railway bridge!
‘The majority of the Russian girls I know would be relatively family oriented though also they have personal goals to fulfill regarding business or career. This is positive when you wish to have a life partner who can stand with you in your own dealings, activities, etc. Another aspect is their grasp of languages, which is something generally lacking in Ireland, UK, USA, etc.’ (Andrew, UK)
I think no other arguments are necessary here to explain why the entire world acknowledges Russian women's uniqueness, their extraordinary beauty, rare spiritual qualities, ability to combine professionalism with creating cosiness at home, their heroism and GREAT POWER!
